Manny Pacquiao Next Fight News & Predictions: Sparring Partner Stan Martyniouk Believes ‘Pacman’ Will Hurt Chris Algieri
Manny Pacquiao's sparring partner Stan Martyniouk believes that the Filipino boxing icon will be too much for Chris Algieri in their upcoming 12-round title fight on Nov. 22 in Macau, China.
Martyniouk, who holds a 13-2 professional record, had his first sparring session with Pacquiao, saying that he was very impressed with what he saw from Pacquiao -- things that could also help him in his boxing career.
"I was really nervous but it went well," Martyniouk said of his first sparring session with Pacquiao via Rappler. "It was definitely an experience sparring Manny. He is very tricky, very fast, got great movement and has very good power. He was very relaxed. I learned a lot of things; don't want to give them away just yet."
The 29-year-old lightweight contender also played down speculation that Pacquiao is behind his training schedule because of his other commitments, reiterating that the former pound-for-pound king is already in great shape for the fight.
Martyniouk also added that Pacquiao's hand speed and punching power is still there, contrary to analysts' criticisms, saying that the 35-year-old's punches will definitely hurt Algieri in their Nov. 22 fight.
"Let me just say he is already in fight shape," Martyniouk said. "I don't think it will be a tough fight for Manny. But it will be a very tough fight for Algieri. Some of the punches he throws are very fast and you don't see them and that's what he is going hurt Algieri with."
Aside from Martyniouk, Pacquiao is also scheduled to have sparring sessions with Mike Jones, who has an impressive 26-2 record with 19 knockouts, and Viktor Postol of Ukraine, who holds an unblemished 26-0 fight record.
Pacquiao's strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune was also impressed with the way the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion is performing in training camp -- enough for him to guarantee a win for the future boxing Hall of Famer next month.
"I guarantee (that) Manny wins," Fortune said in an interview with The Philippine Star. "I never predict how a fight will end but I can tell you Manny beats Algieri. How does Manny win? He fights his fight, he listens to Freddie Roach, he stays sharp and that's the end of it."
