Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho expressed interest in signing a new long-term deal with the Blues after leading the club to a strong start this season.

The Portuguese-born Mourinho, who signed a four-year deal in June 2013 to make his second tour of duty with Chelsea, said that he is committed to staying at Stamford Bridge, even after his current contract with the club runs out.

"That's what I want," Mourinho said of signing a new deal with the Blues via ESPN FC. "I want to stay in Chelsea and English football because I think I won the right. Unfortunately, Chelsea's not my club. I depend on the club and I depend on the results."

Mourinho brought Chelsea back to respectability in his first season at the helm last year, helping the club finish third to Manchester City and Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League table.

The Blues are off to a strong start this season, tallying seven wins and one draw in eight league matches. When asked if the current squad has a chance to duplicate their record during the 2004-05 season, Mourinho said that the current group is reaching the elite status like the best team he handled during his first stint with the Blues.

"We are reaching that level," Mourinho said when asked to compare the current group to his Chelsea squad that finished with 95 points in 2005 via Telegraph. "My first spell here we had already in the team players with great maturity, great knowledge, great stability."

The 51-year-old manager added last year's team had the potential to capture the Barclays Premier League title, but the Blues failed to live up to expectations.

"Last year my team was naive, couldn't cope with certain moments of the game, so we work, we work, we work and in this moment I'm happy," Mourinho said. "We are not a perfect team -- a long way to go -- but in many aspects our team is a better team than last year."
