Carmelo Anthony is known as one of the best scorers in the NBA, but the New York Knicks superstar said that he expects to score fewer points in the 2014-15 NBA season.

Anthony expressed belief that he won't win the scoring title in the upcoming season because of the "triangle offense" implemented by new Knicks coach Derek Fisher.

"I don't think I'll be the scoring champ," Anthony admitted during the weekend via ESPN New York. "Especially with this system, the way we're playing -- the way that it's going to be well-balanced, the style of play we're going to have, I don't think I'll have to lead the league in scoring this year."

Anthony won the scoring title during the 2012-13 NBA season when he averaged 28.7 points. He took an average of 22.2 shots per game during that year and 21.3 shots per game last season.

Under the new offensive system that focuses on sharing the ball to find the best possible shot, Anthony said that his number of shot attempts per game will also go down.

"I think shots will be fewer," Anthony said. "I think it will be more effective shots. So if that means taking fewer shots, then that's what's going to happen."

Fisher also said in an interview that having a player who can carry the team on his shoulders is an advantage for the Knicks, but the rookie coach sounded like they are not going to rely as heavily on Anthony in offense this year.

"It's important that we understand that we have one of the great players in the game that is capable of carrying a team and doing a lot of work for us," Fisher said. "But it's not in his best interest or the team's best interest to constantly rely on that gift, because it truly is a gift."

"As a coach, it feels good to know you have a guy like that, willing to play that role for you and capable of it. But at the same time, you have to be mindful of not taking advantage of it," Fisher added.
