The Mega Millions jackpot for tonight is already at $160 million. Could someone be the next multi-millionaire?

From $145 million last Friday, the pot prize has zoomed $15 million more tonight and one person in the U.S. could very well be the next lucky winner. For a $1 Mega Millions ticket, a U.S. resident can already bet five different numbers - from 1 to 46 - and if his or her bets match the six numbers drawn every Tuesday and Friday night, then the jackpot prize is theirs!

Last week, no one won the pot prize of $145 million; however, thousands have won other money prizes ranging from $2 to $250,000. The winning numbers for last Friday (Sept. 20) are 1, 15, 20, 21 and 47, with the Mega Millions number 34. According to the Mega Millions site, five people won $250,000 each - one from Florida, one from Maryland, one from Michigan, one from Virginia and one from Washington.

Should someone win the jackpot prize of $160 million tonight, the winner will have the choice to cash in the money at a lower value of $109 million or receive the full $160 M in annuities, or to be paid over a 26-year period. For tonight's pot, the annuity will be equivalent to more or less $6 million a month.

Just last week, a person from South Carolina won $400 million from another U.S. lottery, Powerball. With the growing number of people of who become instant millionaires, the rate of people who join lotto games in the States have also increased.

The last jackpot winner for Mega Millions was last July 26 - $19 million was won by citizens of Kearney, NJ.
