The X Factor season 3 auditions are coming to a close and more talents are joining the list of would-be pop stars after the season ends.

"Tonight, the competition heats up," were the first word host Mario Lopez said as this week's episode started. With audition rounds ending tomorrow, the pool of talented singers in the Fox reality singing competition has been growing.

Tonight, several young stars, over 25 hopefuls and even previous auditioners made their way to the X Factor stage for a chance to be the next superstar.

First up on the Long Island, NY stage was Melanie Wright, a 40-year-old from Maryland. She sang "Titanium" and with that, the auditions for the day didn't seem to start on the right foot. Aside from the judges making terrified faces, after she sang Demi Lovato, Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland didn't know what to say.

Of course, Simon Cowell had a few words for her: "It was like finding out that Cinderella worked in the playboy mansion." Melanie had 4 "NOs" from the judges.

Next was 15-year-old Emery Kelly, who looked oh-so-adorable. Singing "I Won't Give Up", the sophomore impressed the judges. Demi said he was really cute and had a great voice. Simon said "You're like a little unpolished diamond...I think you're someone who can really grow. You can be a real pop star." He got 4 Yeses.

James Kenney, who auditioned in season 1, was back singing "Summertime." The 35-year-old had his wife and two daughters supporting him, and he did not disappoint. Demi called on his riffs, saying they were "crazy." James also received 4 yeses.

One of the funnier auditions of the night was from Joseph Tolve who sang "Skycraper." The 19-year-old had this tiny voice that almost sounded like it came from a cartoon character. Kelly even told him that he'll do great in Sesame Street (ouch!). He received 4 "NOs".

At Denver, Tim Olstad auditioned with "A Thousand Years". Without Simon (who was late) on the panel, the three women swooned over Tim's amazing voice. The overly nervous guy received 3 "Yeses", with Kelly saying that his "voice came over me like a blanket lo love."

Two surprises were also seen in the episode tonight: one had to do with Simon, and the other a wedding. Nope! Simon isn't walking down the aisle (we don't think this will happen soon), but a wedding proposal judge happened on the X Factor audition stage.

David and girlfriend Lorraine auditioned separately on the show. David, who went first, was a failure, but the woman had more tone. After Lorraine sang "Teenage Dream", the man went on stage told her girlfriend he loved her, knelt on one knee and proposed. Needless to say, the entire theatre was surprised, and the judges even standing up in their shock. Lorraine said "Yes" to David, but Simon said "No" to both of them.

The other surprise came from a group called Second Hand High. The duo sang an original rap song with a very catchy chorus, according to Demi and Kelly. "I said you better ask me to dance," the song went. Although Simon hated it, Kelly enjoyed the performance and even danced to it. However, it was not enough to get them through - without Paulina on the panel, the duo got 3 "NOs".

But it didn't end there. X Factor producers were quick to pick up the catchy tune and even made a parody video for it. Kelly rapped and danced to the tune, with Demi making quick appearances. But the surprise came when Simon started rapping (or was that declaming?).
