Hugh Jackman Skin Cancer: Star Undergoes Treatment for Third Time in a Year
Hugh Jackman has undergone a basal cell carcinoma treatment for the third time in a year.
"(He is) all good," Jackman's rep said.
The first time he was treated for cancer was in November 2013 and then in May 2014.
Jackman has previously opened up about how important it is to wear sunscreen and to get yourself checked out regularly.
"So just to be clear, it is skin cancer -- it's a basal cell carcinoma, which of all the skin cancers, is the most minor," he said. "But you do need to take care of it immediately because it's growing."
Jackman added that everyone should go get checkups regularly, and he is following through on his own words.
The Australian actor explained that he was sure the cancer would return at least one more time or even a few more times. He said that as a child he wasn't told to wear sunscreen. Jackman also described himself as "a typical man, a little lazy," who wouldn't get checked out before. But things have changed for him.
He was first pressured to go to to the doctor by his wife and makeup artist.
He was shooting a movie, and he thought he had hurt himself by scratching himself. A few weeks later, his nose was bleeding again. He thought he had picked off a scab, but his makeup artist told him he should go get it checked out.
His wife wouldn't let up until he finally agreed to go to the doctor.
"I don't remember being stopped and someone saying, 'Are you boys wearing sunscreen,' until I was around 15 or 16," he said. "People presume actors are very vain, but I told the doctor to make it an even bigger scar. Go about 45 degrees up, then a little tilt down -- I've always wanted one of those."
