Kanye West Entertainment: 'Runaway' Rapper Reportedly Turned Down $4.5M Planet Hollywood Las Vegas, Nevada Residency Offer
Hip-hop agitpop provocateur Kanye West put the kibosh on an offer that could have made the rapper the highest paid entertainer on the Las Vegas Strip, according to a TMZ report.
West, 37, was reportedly offered $4.5 million to perform a nine-show gig at the Axis at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas. The invitation could have scored $500,000 per night over the course of three weeks. This is substantially higher than pop balladeer Céline Dion, who holds the record; taking home $476,000 per concert, and $25,000 more than Planet Hollywood's current headliner, dance pop princess Britney Spears. West could have also made more per show than Latin pop diva Jennifer Lopez, who is currently in talks with The Axis at Planet Hollywood abd was offered for $350,000 per show or 72 performances over a two-year period.
According to The Guardian, though the Chicago-based emcee performed in Las Vegas on Oct. 24, it is uncertain when the themed casino and restaurant Planet Hollywood provided the offer, or whether West would still be promoting his sixth solo studio album, "Yeezus." As of this month, he is preparing to release its follow-up.
At the moment, Benjamin Bronfman, who produced the original version of "New Slaves" under the title "Cruel Cold Winter," has released a demo recording of the album's opening track, according to NME.
"[Kanye] kept saying, 'Just make it hot, make it really dope,'" Bronfman told Rolling Stone, which posted the demo for listening on Oct. 27.
"He didn't really get into specifics, which is funny -- he's the type of person who will get really specific in person, but not on the phone," Bronfman said.
The musician and producer reported that he only learned West had used part of his track before a "Yeezus" listening party in New York.
"I got word, like, 'One of your tracks made it. It's ill. Come to the show, we'll talk about it there,'" Bronfman said.
Bronfman now anticipates making an impact on West's next LP by providing further material.
