Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson and San Antonio Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard are looking for contract extensions from their respective teams, but reports indicated that they won't get it before the deadline.

Players picked during the 2011 NBA Draft has until Friday night to get a new deal from their respective teams to avoid hitting restricted free agency next offseason.

The San Jose Mercury News reported that Thompson, the 11th overall pick in 2011, is still in talks with the Warriors about a new deal. General manager Bob Myers declined to reveal the status of their negotiation, but he said that there is still a chance until the deadline passes.

"As long as you're talking, deals have a chance of getting done," Myers said. "You worry about a deal getting done if both sides aren't speaking, and we're talking, and we'll see. It seems like a short window here."

However, sources indicated that Thompson is looking for a maximum-salary contract, and the Warriors are still undecided on whether or not they can afford to give into the sharp-shooting guard's demands.

On the other hand, Leonard, the 2014 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, is also seeking a maximum deal from the Spurs, but the emerging star will likely become a free agent next summer.

Marc Stein of ESPN reported that the Leonard and the Spurs are in serious talks about getting a deal done before the deadline, but sources close to the situation indicated that the two sides are from reaching a new deal.

Leonard, who averaged 12.8 points to go along with 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season, is viewed as the future face of the Spurs franchise when Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker retire.

However, the Spurs are reportedly planning to wait until after the current season before offering a new deal to maintain their cap flexibility. Leonard is expected to get maximum-salary contract offers when he hits free agency next summer, but the Spurs have the right to match to keep the 23-year-old forward.
