The New York Yankees are tipped to make big moves again this offseason after missing the MLB playoffs for the second straight season, but reports indicated that they won't chase big-name free agents anytime soon.

Recent rumors suggested that the Yankees will make a strong push to acquire third baseman Pablo Sandoval and pitchers Max Scherzer and Jon Lester, considering the fact that their rotation was badly depleted by injuries last season.

Sandoval could make an immediate impact with the Yankees, while both Scherzer and Lester will shore up their starting rotation that is currently bannered by Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia, who both missed significant amount of games last season due to injuries.

However, Mark Feisand of NY Daily News reported that the Yankees are not planning to sit down with these free agents because they are focused on keeping their own free agents this offseason, including Brandon McCarthy and Chase Headley.

McCarthy, who was traded to the Yankees from Arizona Diamondbacks in July, proved that he can be the Yankees' No. 3 starter behind Tanaka and Sabathia next season. The 31-year-old pitcher went 7-5 with 2.89 ERA in 14 starts for the Yankees last season.

Headley also played well for the Yankees last season after getting traded from the San Diego Padres. In 58 games, the 30-year-old third baseman averaged .262 with six homeruns and 17 RBIs.

Headley might draw the interest of several teams this season, but CBS Sports reported that the Yankees have already reached out to him about a new deal with sources indicating that the seven-year veteran is also leaning towards staying in New York.

However, it is unclear at this point how his role will change with the impending return of veteran third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who was recently reinstated after serving a one-year suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.

Aside from McCarthy and Headley, the Yankees are also planning to keep closer David Robertson, who had 39 saves last season with a 3.08 ERA in 63 games.

The Yankees extended a $15.3-million qualifying offer to Robertson, who has a week to decide whether or not to accept the offer to stay with the Yankees. If he declines, the Yankees will get a first-round pick from the team who will sign the right hander this offseason.
