Derrick Rose Injury Update: Bulls Superstar Struggling to Recover From Injured Ankles, Chicago Fans Losing Patience
Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose remains doubtful for their upcoming game against the Milwaukee Bucks at BMO Harris Bradley Center because of his sprained ankles.
Rose missed their 106-105 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday and 98-90 victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday after spraining both ankles during their 114-108 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
The 26-year-old superstar, who is still trying to regain his rhythm following his recovery from two straight major knee surgeries, was expected to play against the Magic, but was a late scratch before Tuesday's match.
During Tuesday's shootaround, Rose said that his ankles are feeling good, but he reiterated that he will not force himself to play if he feels he is not 100 percent healthy.
"If I could get to a spot, I could play. If not, there's no need," Rose said via ESPN Chicago. "If I'm not out there and I'm not 100 percent or if I can't play the way that I normally play, there's no point in me being out there right now."
Bulls power forward Pau Gasol said that they just need to step up again in case Rose misses Wednesday's game again. Joakim Noah is also listed as doubtful against the Bucks due to illness.
"You have to always be prepared physically and mentally to face differing and difficult circumstances where you're going to have to play a little longer, work a little harder," Gasol said. "This was what this league is about, as well."
But while Gasol is still optimistic that they can get the job done and despite the Bulls' two straight wins, their fans are reportedly losing their patience in Rose.
Rose, who averaged 16.5 points to go along with 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds, has only played in 12 games since suffering a torn ACL during the first round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs.
According to Rick Telander of Chicago Sun Times, fans are starting to question if they can count on Rose with most of them questioning the 26-year-old guard's willingness to play through pain.
"Michael Jordan came back to the NBA in 1994 after his minor-league baseball adventure, and he played in every game for the Bulls for the next four years, winning three NBA titles," Telander wrote.
"Maybe Jordan is a freak. Of course, he is. But he played though pain," he continued. "How can we believe in Rose until he plays in game after game again? Maybe we can't."
