Don Omar 2014 News: 'Guaya Guaya' Singer's Domestic Abuse Trial Postponed as Ex-Girlfriend Is a No-Show at Hearing Again
The Don Omar domestic abuse case continues to be at a standstill as his ex-girlfriend, Rebeca Lopez Zambrana, once again did not show up to court, notes TV y Novelas.
Omar was arrested in September after he allegedly threatened Zambrana. He was charged with two counts of threatening a person and two counts of weapons violation. Since then, the case has been rescheduled a few times.
After the incident, which took place in Puerto Rico, Zambrana was reported as having left for Washington, D.C.
Zambrana's absence at the most recent court hearing was reportedly for a good reason, according to prosecutor Mibari Rivera. Although Rivera admitted to Judge Janette Perea that she had no idea where Zambrana was.
The prosecutor also admitted that she wasn't ready to present the case, which was objected by Jorge Gordon, Don Omar's lawyer.
The new case will now take place on Nov. 17.
The prosecutor has 60 days to present the case, which is when Omar's lawyers can seek dismissal of the charges. Nov. 17 is the 61st day, so a decision will have to be reached by then.
Although not a lot is known about what actually happened the day of the incident, there have been rumors that Zambrana was paid off for her silence. She was allegedly paid $350,000 to dismiss the charges, according to People En Español. Zambrana later disputed these rumors and said no one was talking about money.
In mid-October, Omar also said he had no idea where his ex-girlfriend was and that he is ready to move on.
"What I want is for this to be over," he said.
At a previous court hearing, Omar's house arrest terms were modified. The judge said the singer would be able to leave home Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for work. Sundays are when he must stay home the entire day.
