NFL Monday Night Football Schedule & Predictions: Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles (POLL)
The Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles will face each other on NFL Monday Night Football in a game with huge NFL playoff implications.
The 2014 NFL season has just one game remaining in Week 10. Both are NFC teams and have high expectations this season.
Let's see who has the edge in this game:
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have failed to meet the standards they set last season. The Panthers are just 3-5-1 after going 12-4 last season. The Panthers haven't won a game since Week 5 when they defeated the Chicago Bears, who are now 3-6.
Despite having the No. 2 ranked defense in the league last season, the Panthers rank just 25th overall this year. Luke Kuechly is playing well, but the Panthers' pass defense has been terrible this season. Quarterback Cam Newton has been inconsistent all season long with just eight passing touchdowns and an 81.4 passer rating. Newton has also battled multiple injuries this season.
The brightest spot on offense has been first round pick Kelvin Benjamin. The rookie wide receiver has a team-leading 589 yards and five touchdowns this season and will most likely get this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Tight end Greg Olsen also has 539 yards this year. Jonathan Stewart leads the team in rushing yards with 263, and Newton has 257 himself.
Even though the Panthers have just three wins, they are just one game behind the New Orleans Saints in the NFC South.
Philadelphia Eagles
The NFC East has been a tight race all season between the Dallas Cowboys and the Eagles. The Cowboys lead the division at 7-3, so this is a must-win for the Eagles. As for the New York Giants and Washington Redskins, it's just not their year. The Eagles are playing at home, but starting quarterback Nick Foles is out. Former first round pick Mark Sanchez will be starting for the Eagles in this game. Sanchez isn't a great quarterback, as he does have 70 touchdowns and 71 interceptions in his career, but coach Chip Kelly will have a plan for him. Running back LeSean McCoy got off to a rough start this year, but he has run for more than 80 yards in his last four consecutive games. Jeremy Maclin leads the Eagles with 790 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. After this game, the Eagles will take on the Green Bay Packers.
