Ariana Grande took home two trophies as the MTV Europe Music Awards celebrated its 20th anniversary Sunday in Glasgow, Scotland while Nicki Minaj hosted the show.

The 21-year-old pop singer was named best female artist and won the best-single prize for her hit song "Problem."

Last year, Ariana met Australian rapper Iggy Azalea at the EMA's which lead to the two working together for the hit single. Grande said, "This is absolutely crazy," after receiving her second award for the night.

The performer said she was so excited for MTV EMA's night that she couldn't sleep the night before. She was nearly shaking when she walked past photographers on the red carpet.

Minaj was a confident host for the show at Glasgow's SSE Hydro arena. She also won best hip-hop artist for the night.

"I've been learning so much about your beautiful country and culture ... I've pretty much become Scottish," Minaj said at the EMA's.

She made a rap song about whiskey and shortbread to show how much she appreciates the Scottish culture while singing a short clip of The Proclaimers' anthem "500 Miles."

She performed her bootylicious song "Anaconda."

The show relatively stuck to a standard award-show script. According to the AP, there was a putt into derriere-shaped mini-golf hole in tribute to Scotland's love of golf, and a couple of F-bomb obscenities directed at an animatronic dinosaur.

Justin Bieber was named best male artist. Boy band One Direction won three awards, including best pop act. Katy Perry and Australian 5 Seconds of Summer each won two awards.

Despite rumors, Beyonce did not appear for the show. Scottish DJ Calvin Harris had to cancel out because he fell sick.

Still many stars made it a great show including, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Enrique Iglesias and U2.

The EMAs are held in a different European city each year while fans across the continent choose the winners.

The EMAs had a time-travel theme for this year.
