'Grand Theft Auto V' Gameplay Review: A Gamer's Take After the First Night Playing 'GTA 5' on Xbox 360
I could not wait to finally get my hands on a copy of "Grand Theft Auto V." The game has been out for quite some time, but I have been holding out. Recently, I finally purchased the game at Best Buy for $34.99 at (price-matched with Amazon).
I came home and ripped open the box because I have been a fan of "GTA" games since the original "Grand Theft Auto" for PC.
I had lofty expectations after all the great videos and articles I have seen and read, so I was ready for a game experience that was going to blow my socks off.
Instead of being able to play the game right away, Xbox 360 insisted that I install "a copy" of the game to my hard drive. That's not fun! That took about 10 minutes or so, and then I was ready to play.
I started the game and realized there was a story cut scene that I was not allowed to skip. It involved my character robbing some armored truck facility.
Finally, it was my turn to actually play the game.
After failing the mission a couple times by shooting the hostages, I realized what I was supposed to do and progressed to the next scene: a shootout with police.
Taking cover behind a few vehicles and shooting a bunch of cops seemed exciting at first, but my "teammates" were useless and I had to waste the cops on my own. After taking about eight gun shots to the body, I was able to kill those cops.
Thankfully, the game was about to get less boring and I received a getaway ride from one of my associates. He drove me into town, and all of the sudden I was in a driveway with two sports cars to choose from.
The game instructed me to pick a car. I could either choose a red sports car or a white sports car. On the first try, I chose the white one.
I was then instructed to follow the red car on this wild goose chase through the Hollywood Hills. It didn't seem like anyone was even chasing us, but I had to follow the red car anyway. Because he drove so fast and was so hard to follow, I failed this mission twice and had to retry.
Finally, the red car took me to a garage where I could store my vehicle and save my game. This, for me, is where the game finally starts, as I was able to start blowing up random things and stealing cars.
I put the game down for the night after saving the little progress I made. I hope that, as I get further in the game, I will start learning some new things and being able to enjoy the game a little more. I don't want to have to use cheats -- yet.
Even though I have only scratched the surface of the huge map of "GTA V," I am a little disappointed in the gameplay and missions, but we will see!
