Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a torn ACL in his left knee during their 31-14 win against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

Palmer sustained the injury when he tried to evade Rams safety Mark Barron in the fourth quarter of their match. He said that he has performed that kind of move "a thousand times," but he heard a pop in his left knee, and thus knew right away that he tore his ACL.

"Selfishly, very unfortunate," Palmer said of his injury via ESPN. "A bump in the road for me, but I've been through this before and I've had something worse actually before. I'm going to attack this thing. I'm going to grind and be back and hopefully be back here and be ready to roll by OTA time."

Palmer, who has completed 62.9 percent of his passes for 1,626 yards with 11 touchdowns against just three interceptions this season, admitted that he was very emotional the night he suffered the season-ending injury.

"I'm not going to lie, I cried like a baby last night," Palmer told reporters via NFL.com. "And I'm not an emotional guy. I don't cry. The last time I cried like that was when I lost my friend and teammate Chris Henry back in '09."

The devastating injury came just two days after Palmer signed a fresh three-year, $50 million deal with the Cardinals, including $20.5 million guaranteed salary.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said they will look to sign another quarterback soon, but he pointed out that losing Palmer is a big blow to their campaign this season.

"It's hard," Arias said. "I knew walking out on the field what I was going to find. You're pulling for a guy because he's put so much into it, to get into the playoffs and win some games and maybe go all the way, because you know what it means to him at this point of his career."

The Cardinals are currently on top of the NFC West standings with their 8-1 record. Arizona will play their first game without Palmer on Sunday against the Detroit Lions at University of Phoenix Stadium.
