HBO Go Subsription: Service is Coming to Xbox One, Allows Users to Watch HBO From Their Consoles
HBO Go is the new HBO for multiple devices, even video game consoles.
What that means is, as long as a user has Internet and an HBO subscription, whether it be through their phone, through their high speed connection or even through their Xbox One, they will be able to watch HBO programming.
Microsoft confirmed that HBO Go will be available on the Xbox One Thursday. That means that everyone who has an Xbox One and an active Internet connection will be able to access HBO Go.
HBO Go gives users all the access they want to their favorite HBO shows and movies. It's a great system for the on-the-go entertainment-seeker.
HBO Go has been around for about a year and it has been available on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 for quite a while. But now, Xbox One has a leg up on Playstation 4 by getting HBO Go added to their apps.
"Xbox One users can get in on the action and Kinect [sic]" with HBO shows and movies, HBO's Jeff Dallesandro said. Dallesandro is HBO's vice president of digital domestic network distribution.
With Kinect, Xbox One users will be able to tell their system what to do. For example they could use the command "Play Game of Thrones" and just like that their system will interact with HBO Go and the show will start playing.
With the influx of online streaming TV services, HBO's move to head to Xbox One is a great idea. Apple TV and Amazon Fire are cheap alternatives but HBO Go requires no actual hardware as long as you have a phone, computer or video game system, you can connect.
Apple TV, Amazon Fire and Google Chromecast all require some kind of little device to hook up to users' TVs. HBO Go does not.
If a user currently has a cable or satellite service, they can easily go to HBO Go's website and sign up for free. They must subscribe to HBO in order to get it though.
