Channing Tatum to Make Directing Debut for Film ‘Leonard Peacock’
Actor Channing Tatum is set to make his directorial debut in a film adaptation of Matthew Quick's YA book "Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock" for The Weinstein Co, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Reid Carolin will join Tatum as co-director of the film. There are also talks of Tatum possibly starring in the film adaptation, says THR.
According to THR, Quick's "Leonard Peacock" centers on the life of a troubled teen who develops a plan to kill his best friend and then himself.
MTV further elaborates that the teen plans the murder for his 18th birthday.
Although Tatum does not fit the age description for the starring role, the "Magic Mike" actor is looking to possibly play the main character's teacher, who attempts to intervene in the murder, MTV reports.
Tatum and Carolin are still in the beginning stages of creating the film and MTV reports that the duo is currently looking for a writer to join the "Leonard Peacock" creative team.
MTV reports that another of Quick's novels, "Silver Linings Playbook," was also adapted into a film, directed by David O. Russell, that earned the film's star, Jennifer Lawrence, her first Oscar.
While Tatum and Carolin begin the early stages of the creative process for "Leonard Peacock," fans can see Tatum in a number of films including "Foxcatcher" -- which People claims opened up to rave reviews-as well as the upcoming futuristic drama, "Jupiter Ascending," and "Magic Mike XXL."
During a recent interview with People, Tatum dished on "Magic Mike," his real life experience as a stripper, and his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum's opinion of the film.
"If I was just doing some movie about strippers, then [Jenna would] probably be like, 'Why do you want to do that?'" Tatum said. "But it started off as a story that I really love, and it's grown into something that I love even more because it's a weird world that I experienced in my real life."
