Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: 'Pacman' Will Knock Floyd Mayweather Out, Says Freddie Roach
Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is convinced that Manny Pacquiao will score a knockout win against Floyd Mayweather Jr. if the super fight between the two boxing superstar happens next year.
Roach said that Pacquiao showed that he still has a lot of gas left in his tank after scoring a masterful victory against Chris Algieri on Saturday, which makes him believe that the Filipino boxing icon is still better than Mayweather.
"Pacquiao will beat Floyd with his performance against Algieri," Roach said via BoxingScene. "You know, Floyd about two years ago, I thought it's about even. Now I think Manny will knock him out."
Roach said that Pacquiao, who knocked Algieri down six times en route to a lopsided decision win to retain his World Boxing Organization welterweight title, is still on top of his game, while Mayweather has lost a step based on the unbeaten champion's recent performances.
"Floyd can't run like he used to," Roach said. "He can't move, his legs are shot, he's a washed up, old fighter. We'll knock out Floyd. Manny did well and hopefully the Mayweather fight happens. And I look forward at getting him ready for that."
Talks about the super showdown between Pacquiao and Mayweather intensified as Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum said that he will go all out to make the bout happen in 2015.
Previous negotiations for the fight, which could break boxing records in terms of revenue, went down after the two camps failed to find a common ground, but Arum is more optimistic about the fight this time.
Pacquiao reiterated that he is always ready to face Mayweather, and he is hoping that the reigning pound-for-pound king will finally agree to face him next year to give the fight fans the fight that they have been clamoring for over the past several years.
"The people deserve that fight. The fans deserve that fight," Pacquiao said. "The fans deserve that fight. I think it's time to say something. It's been a long time that I wanted that fight, but I didn't just want to keep talking and talking about that fight because the other camp is just denying, denying, always denying to talk about that fight."
