NFL Monday Night Football Schedule & Predictions: Miami Dolphins at New York Jets [Poll]
In a classic AFC East rivalry, the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets will play each other on NFL Monday Night Football at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
Don't let the records fool you. This is a rivalry game, and anything can happen.
These two teams have given fans a lot of great moments over the years, like the "Dan Marino fake spike play" in 1994. This is an important AFC East divisional game, but more important for the AFC Wild Card standings.
Let's see which team has the edge in this game:
Miami Dolphins (6-5)
After a three-game winning streak, the Miami Dolphins have now lost two of their last three games. Losses to the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions now have the Dolphins at 6-5, and a wildcard spot is most likely in the next hand for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins have missed the playoffs 11 of the last 12 seasons.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has 20 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions this season with a 93.4 passer rating. The Dolphins offense ranks 18th overall in the league, but running back Lamar Miller has been playing well this year. Miller has 673 rushing yards and six touchdowns this season. To no one's surprise, Mike Wallace is the leading receiver for the Dolphins this season with 592 yards and seven touchdowns. Wallace is one of the best deep threats in the NFL.
The Dolphins defense has been one of the best in the league this season. Cameron Wake has a team-leading 8.5 sacks this year, and linebacker Jelani Jenkins has 62 tackles. The Dolphins defense completely collapsed last week against the Denver Broncos, but they won't be facing that powerful offense again.
The San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens are also fighting for an AFC wild card spot, as well.
The Dolphins will host the Jets in Week 17.
New York Jets (2-9)
It's been a rough season for the New York Jets.
At 2-9, there's plenty of blame to go around. Head coach Rex Ryan most likely won't be with the Jets next season, general manager John Idzik is making questionable decisions, and the players aren't performing at a high level.
The only two victories for Jets this season came against the Oakland Raiders in Week 1 and against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10.
Facing the Buffalo Bills last week in Detroit didn't go very well for Jets, as they lost 38-3. As usual, the Jets have been rotating quarterbacks all season. Both Michael Vick and Geno Smith have thrown more than 100 passes this season. Despite starting just three games, Vick has been sacked 19 times. Smith and Vick have a combined 10 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. The Jets offense is currently ranked 29th overall this season. Outside of Eric Decker, the Jets don't have a reliable target to throw to.
Even though the Jets offense has been anemic, defensive specialist Rex Ryan still has this defense ranked No. 7 overall in the league. The Jets' defense sometimes keeps the team in games, but without a reliable offense, wins aren't coming around very often.

Prediction
The Dolphins are obviously better on paper, but you can never look past a division rivalry game. The Jets will give the Dolphins a fight, but will end the day 2-10. As good as the Jets defense can be, terrible field position set up by the offense doesn't do them any favors.
