On Sunday night, actress and director Angelina Jolie was reportedly involved in a car accident that nearly caused her vehicle to flip over.

x 17 reports that Jolie's car accident occurred as she was heading home in a chauffeured black SUV after the screening of her latest film, "Unbroken." As Jolie entered the SUV following her exit from the Writers' Guild Theater, her chauffeur allegedly sped off from the venue, slipped on the wet road, and immediately hit the curb with extreme force, sources said.

"The car slammed into the curb at a significant speed," a source explained. "Angelina must have wondered if they hit another car. It was pretty bad -- the tire exploded and it's amazing nothing worse happened to the car. I wouldn't be surprised if she has whiplash."

Following the crash, Jolie waited inside the SUV for another chauffeur from the same car service to take her home.

Brad Pitt, Jolie's husband, was not seen picking the actress up. Instead, another chauffeur reportedly arrived to the scene to take Jolie home safely.

Jolie's 24/7 bodyguard was reportedly off on the day of the accident.

During the screening for her film, Jolie raved about her second experience as a director and revealed her preference for directing vs. acting in a film.

"I'm very happy as a director," Jolie told x 17. "I may be stressed, but I'm loving every difficult challenge. I love seeing a story through from beginning to end. I like the nurturing aspect of it -- building the family of crew and supporting everyone. I'm much happier not being that person out in the front."

Though Jolie's night following the film screening proved to be unsuccessful, her second directorial project, "Unbroken" has garnered rave reviews so far. Many media outlets including the Hollywood Reporter andShowBiz411 predict that the Jolie-directed film will earn her an Oscar nomination.

"Unbroken" details the life of Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini, who later becomes a WWII prisoner of war. It hits theaters on Dec. 25.
