Honduras has this year's largest human Christmas tree, setting a new Guinness world record.

"On behalf of the Guinness Book it is a great pleasure to announce that today, December 1, 2014 the people of Honduras in Tegucigalpa, with 2,945 people, have broken the record for world's largest human Christmas tree," the Guiness World Record company's representative, Carlos Martinez, said according to Business Insider.

Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez happily received the certificate outside the presidential residence. According to Fox News Latino, Hernandez promoted the initiative to make a human tree and attended the event with his two daughters, Legislative Assembly Chairman Maurico Oliva and other officials.

"It's officially amazing," he said reading the certificate.

The 2,945 people who made the tree all dressed in different colors, making a clear view of a Christmas tree from several feet above the ground. There were brown shirts for the tree bark, green shirts for the leaves, red shirts for ornaments and yellow for the star at the top.

The president thanked all the participants who came out to make the tree as they all celebrated at the Democracy Plaza in his Presidential House in Tegucigalpa.

"Honduras is a country that loves peace and wants to live in peace," Hernandez said about the country plagued with poverty and crime.

According to a United Nations report from the Office of Drugs and Crime, Honduras currently has the highest murder rate in the world.

Still, the day was filled with holiday celebrations and performances by renowned Honduran artists and musical groups and handicrafts.

For six minutes, the tree remained motionless for people to see.

The year before, Thailand held the record of largest human Christmas tree, which was formed with 852 children.

The earlier record for the largest human Christmas tree was held by a community in Argentina and was formed by 1,982 people, according to one of Guinness' representatives.
