Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero said that he will try to convince FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to move to the Barclays Premiere League.

Messi will reportedly consider leaving FC Barcelona as early as next month if a team expresses willingness to break the bank and acquire him through a lucrative transfer deal.

Manchester City is one of the top-tier teams in Europe linked to Messi. Aguero, who is a teammate of Messi in Argentina, knows that luring Messi from Barcelona is a difficult task, but he said that he will try to convince the 27-year-old forward to join Manchester City.

"It's a tough task. I'll try and convince him," Messi said via Goal. "You want the best players to be playing in the Premier League. I'll certainly try and convince him."

Aguero is a close friend of Messi having spent a long time playing together in Argentina since their youth days with the national team training pool. Aguero and Messi, along with Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta, won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Messi is in contract with FC Barcelona until June 2018, but the Argentina international recently hinted that he could leave Camp Nou before his contract runs out.

Messi, who recently became the all-time scoring leader in Spanish La Liga and UEFA Champions League, said that he wants to win more titles at Camp Nou. If he will have it his way, he wants to spend the rest of his career with FC Barcelona, but he quickly added that there are certain factors that are out of his control.

"I have said it many times, If it were for me, I would stay forever," Messi said via ESPN FC. "But as I said before, everything does not always come out as you want - even more in football, which changes so much and in which so many things can happen. It is complicated, even more given what is happening today at Barcelona."

Aside from Manchester City, big-money teams Paris Saint-Germain, Bayen Munich and Real Madrid are mentioned as possible destinations. Chelsea were also linked to Messi, but Blues manager Jose Mourinho denied that they will make a push to acquire the four-time Ballon d'Or winner.
