The Galaxy Note 4 from Samsung is getting an update this week. That's because Lollipop 5.0 from Android is about to be released to more and more devices. Is this the phone that will make Samsung the preferred smartphone brand for consumers? Let's examine.

There has been grumblings that the Note 4 would get the Lollipop update. Lollipop is Android's latest operating system update. For now, Note 4 users have to wait. But, Verizon users will get some system updates this week.

They could be gearing up for the Lollipop 5.0 update. That's a good thing for Note 4 users, but what about the actual phone?

The phone is big; it has a 5.7-inch display. It's big enough to be considered a phablet (phone/tablet). Even though it's big, it's still a good fit for your hand and face, thanks to ergonomics.

The phone is tough, too. You can drop it and have no fear of getting it scratched. Even if the back gets scratched or scuffed up, you'll be able to swap it out easily for a new back. This is something Apple does not do.

Another advantage to this phone is the removable battery. Apple doesn't offer this, and once you're out of battery, you're out of luck. With the Note 4, you can simply carry an extra battery with you and just put it in when the first one dies.

The screen is not full HD like the iPhone. But it's a clear and bright picture, and that's all that matters these days.

As far as storage goes, you'll be able to add storage by using a microSD card. That means that you can add up to 128 GB of storage for as cheap as a memory stick costs these days (about $40, or less). Imagine all the stuff you could store on your phone!

You'll be able to draw on your phone's screen with a stylus called the "S Pen." This isn't that big of a deal, but Samsung wants to think it is.
