Amir Khan scored an impressive unanimous decision win against Devon Alexander on Saturday night in Las Vegas, and the British boxer believes that he earned a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Khan has been lobbying for a fight against Mayweather over the past several months, but the reigning pound-for-pound king has yet to give an indication that he is willing to face the Bolton, England, native.

But for Khan, his performance against Alexander is enough for him to think he deserves a chance to hand Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record, the first defeat of his career next year.

"I really believe I earned my shot against the best fighter in the world, which is Floyd Mayweather," Khan said via BoxingScene. "I believe he'll have problems with my speed, movement and accuracy. I'm going to leave it to my team and let's hope we get that fight."

Khan won convincingly in all scorecards – 119-108, 118-100 and 120-108. After the match, he said he was very motivated against Alexander, knowing that a win against the former world welterweight champion would put him one step closer to getting his dream bout.

"We knew we had to make a statement at 147 pounds," said Khan, who earned his second win at the welterweight division. "I was up against a very skilled fighter and I knew we couldn't make any mistakes. I'm the best boxer with the quickest hands in the world and I think this was one of my best performances."

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya was also left in awe after watching Khan's dominating win against Alexander.

The Hall of Famer said that Khan's win proved he should be lined up against fighters like Mayweather and Pacquiao, even saying that the Briton is much faster than the two boxing superstars. De La Hoya said it is the reason why Mayweather has yet to commit to a fight against Khan.

"I do have to admit that right now Amir Khan is faster than Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather," De La Hoya said. "He looked explosive, determined and he was in the zone. It was an incredible performance. Now I know why Floyd Mayweather doesn't want to fight Amir Khan. Now I know why. I wouldn't fight Amir."

If he decides to chase Mayweather again, Khan will have to wait, as recent reports indicated "Money" might face Pacquiao in their long-awaited super fight on May 2 next year.
