During a recent interview on HuffPost Live, Jane's Addiction lead guitarist, Dave Navarro, opened up about the passing of his mother, Connie Navarro -- who died at the hands of an abusive and vengeful ex-boyfriend, Us Weekly reports.

Navarro revealed that he was 15-years-old at the time of his mother's murder.

"My mother was in a relationship, the relationship ended, she wanted to go a different way, and her then-ex-boyfriend murdered her and my aunt," he said. "Sometimes it's hard to link domestic violence with murder because it's such a broad jump. Except it is a domestically violent situation and probably the worst-case scenario in a domestically violent world."

Navarro's first hand experience with domestic violence eventually prompted him to take part in the Joyful Heart Foundation's "No More" PSA campaign, which features over 40 celebrities and public figures encouraging Americans to acknowledge and participate in spreading awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault.

The Joyful Heart Foundation's official website states that the "No More" PSA campaign is directed by actress and advocate Mariska Hargitay, who is also the Foundation's president and founder.

"The situation with my family was in the '80s. We didn't have PSAs like this, we didn't have the Internet," Navarro said of his decision to star in the "No More" PSA. "We didn't have have the means of communication that we have today, and we didn't have such a broad reach in terms of getting a message out. So of course I'm happy to be a part of that."

In addition to starring in the PSA, Dave also revealed that he is working on a feature-length documentary that tells the story of his late mother. Though working on the film helped Dave "feel more at peace" with his mother's passing, he confessed that he is still not fully "repaired" from coming to terms with his mother's murder.
