The creativity available through Instagram received a boost on Tuesday when the free photo and video sharing app announced it addition of five new filters to the mix: Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Perpetua and Aden.

The company said it added the new filters because smartphone camera capabilities have evolved and it has seen enormous creativity within the community, which means users enjoy taking the time to edit and compose photos and videos with different filters.

"Inspired by the photography, art, fashion and design of the global Instagram community, we're releasing five new filters that we believe are our best yet," the Instagram team wrote.

Users can see the new filters at the front of the app filter tray.

Once one has taken a photo or selected an image from their phone or tablet, each filter icon at the bottom of the screen will now display a blurred preview of the image with that filter's effect applied, making it easier to choose a desired effect.

When the user has decided on a filter to use, they can tap that filter to adjust filter strength up or down using the slider. After, the edits can be saved by tapping the check. Tapping "Next" will allow users to add a caption and location, if desired, and to share the image on Instagram.

Everyone has a favorite Instagram filter or two. Now users can customize their tray by tapping the new "Manage" button at the end of your filter tray to re-organize your filters. One can even hide the filters you don't use.

Instagram has also announced three additional new features: real-time commenting without refreshing your feed, the ability to upload slow motion video, and the ability to use the adjust tool to change an image's perspective.
