Home theater systems are not cheap, but there are ways to make it more affordable when buying a new system.

Of course, there are many things to look for in a home theater system. Probably the most important thing is sound. If your TV looks great and your speakers sound awful, the experience is ruined as the whole point of a home theater system is to replicate the experience you receive in a movie theater.

Start by looking for a good surround sound system.

Bose offers some really cool demonstrations of their sound systems. The Bose Cinemate GS Series II Digital Home Theater Speaker System is $599.99 at Best Buy. This system will really bring out the good sound that your HDTV has and deliver a cinematic experience.

If $600 is too much to spend, you can get that same system used out of an open box from Best Buy for $491.99.

Both versions of these home theater systems will leave the warehouse within one day and arrive pretty quickly. You could also pick them up in the store, but be sure to call first to ensure availability.

Here is a limited deal from Wal-Mart. This is an LG system that is wired but still has been getting some pretty good reviews for customers. It's available for an in-store pickup only; check with your local Wal-Mart to see what they have. It's only $168, so don't expect the same kind of quality that Bose would give you. Still, the home theater system does have a Blu-ray player, so that will help.

Speaking of Blu- ray, one of these players is recommended in order to enjoy the crisp sound and picture that HDTVs now offer. They are more affordable than ever now and well worth the extra money.

When deciding on a home theater system, price should not be the only barrier. Make sure to get a good name brand system and do your research. Check Consumer Reports and CNET for reviews to see if the system is highly rated first.
