Lakers News & NBA Rumors: Is Los Angeles Better Off Without Kobe Bryant?
The Los Angeles Lakers recently scored a huge win against the Golden State Warriors without Kobe Bryant, which led to fans saying that the team is a better squad without their superstar guard.
Bryant, who has missed their last three games, is averaging team-highs 24.6 points and 4.9 assists per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
However, most fans are saying that Bryant is taking too many shots with 22.4 attempts per game and also leads the Lakers in minutes played with 35.4 per game.
When asked about the fans' opinion about their team, Scott insisted that they are a better team with Bryant on the floor, saying that there are just times that things are going in their favor.
"I just say those people are idiots," Scott said of fans who are saying that they are better off without the 16-time All-Star guard. "He is one of the best to ever have played the game. When you take him off the team you are going to have nights where you struggle. And then you are going to have one night like we had [against the Warriors]. We are a much better team when Kobe is on the basketball court."
Following their win against the Warriors, Bryant also missed their 113-93 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday and 102-98 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday due to general soreness.
The 36-year-old superstar said on Friday that his knees, feet, back and Achilles tendon are sore, which forced him to remain on the sideline in their last three games, but Bryant said that he will likely play against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The Lakers are currently in 14th place in Western Conference standings with their 9-21 record -- just three games ahead of the cellar-dwelling Minnesota Timberwolves (5-23).
Scott is hoping that Los Angeles will manage to turn the tables as the season progresses, and the first-year Lakers coach insisted that he is not losing patience because he knew even before he accepted the coaching job that turning the team into a contender will take time.
"When I took the job and when I talked to Mitch and Jim, they said, 'This is going to be a process, it's going to take some time.' They asked me if I was OK with that," Scott told LA Times. "The question from me was, 'No, are you guys OK with that?' I always have that in the back of my mind, that this is going to be fine."
