Jon Jones will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182 main event on Saturday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Jones, who is coming off a unanimous decision win against Glover Teixeira in April last year, will look to successfully defend his title for the eighth time and move to two shy of equaling Anderson Silva's all-time record of 10 title defense.

The 27-year-old champion is aware of what analysts are saying about his upcoming defense and on how Cormier could pull off an upset, but Jones is confident he will emerge victorious on Saturday because of his superior skills.

"I love the fact that people assume that if Daniel takes me down he wins the fight," Jones said via Newsday. "I love how people assume that he needs to get close to me and then I'm suddenly at some type of a disadvantage. Honestly, man, I'm so secure in my abilities as a fighter, in the clinch, dirty boxing, my jiu-jitsu, my top game, my bottom game, about my wrestling."

On the other hand, Cormier knows most people are already counting him out, but the 35-year-old challenger is determined to prove his doubters wrong.

Cormier said he will have a tough time against the fighter considered by many as the greatest of all time, but he said they have the right fight plan to pull off an upset against Jones.

Cormier is expecting a dog fight on Saturday. He said he will fight like the way Alexander Gustafsson did when he almost pulled off an upset against Jones in September 2013.

"The only time we ever saw him in a real gritty dog fight was against Alexander Gustafsson when it was tough," Cormier told MMA Fighting. "Glover Teixeira, he was in a dog fight, but it was him doing the beating. He wasn't getting much back in return. So I plan on giving him what Gustafsson gave him times 10."

Cormier, who holds a 15-0 fight record, won via first-round knockout against Patrick Cummins at UFC 170 in February last year, which was followed by a submission win against Dan Henderson at UFC 173 in May.
