Goya Awards 2015: 'La Isla Mínima,' 'El Niño' Lead Nominees; 'Harry Potter' Star up for Best New Actress
The 29th edition Goya Awards will take place on Feb. 7, and a month before the big event happens, the 2015 nominees have been released.
The Spanish award show, which is the equivalent of the Oscars, will be hosted by Dani Rovira, according to the Goya site.
The nominees were named by 2013 Goya winner Marian álvarez, Blanca Suarez and Kike Maíllo. Alberto Rodriguez's "La Isla Mínima" has the most nominations at 17, and "El Niño" follows with 16, according to Goya.
Rodriguez is nominated for Best Director, along with Daniel Monzón for "El Niño", Carlos Vermut for "Magical Girl" and Damian Szifron for "Relatos Salvajes."
A 2014 review of "Magical Girl" by Variety said that the movie was not relatable, but that this was something that both did and didn't work. The review went on to call it an "elaborately contrived, imagination-dependent dark comedy that operates through sleight of hand."
"Magical Girl" tells the story of a young girl who is dying from leukemia. Her wish is to own a magical dress that belonged to a Japanese singer.
