'Terminator: Genisys' 2015 Plot, Cast & News: New Pic of T-800 Cyborg Revealed Ahead of Movie Release Date
As we get closer and closer to the release of "Terminator Genisys," which is the fifth film in the futuristic, time-travel series, more images, teasers and media hit the Internet.
Most recently, USA Today published a new still image from "Terminator Genisys" that shows a skinless T-800 cyborg with glowing red eyes standing ground on what looks like a Skynet military installation. Skynet is the artificial intelligence that has been the primary antagonist in the series since the first film, "Terminator," was released in 1984. "Terminator Genisys" will be the first "Terminator" film since "Terminator: Salvation" hit theaters in the summer of 2009. "Terminator: Salvation" received mixed reviews, and starred Christian Bale as John Connor in a film that took place during the future war that was often referred to in the first three films of the series. "Terminator: Salvation" ignored the events of "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," which was released in 2003 and was the last film in the franchise to star Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"Terminator Genisys" will see Schwarzenegger return to the role which launched him into superstardom back in the mid-1980s. It will also be part of a new trilogy, which was announced by Paramount Pictures last year. The second and third films of this new troika of "Terminator" movies are currently scheduled for release in May 19, 2017, and June 29, 2018.
"Terminator Genisys" is scheduled for release on July 1 of this year. It will be interesting to see whether production will move forward on the second and third movies of this planned new trilogy should "Terminaor Genisys" not be a big box office success. After all, "Terminator: Salvation" was supposed to be the first in a series of new films as well.
