New York Knicks Roster & Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Not Planning to Shut Down His 2014-15 Season Yet
New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony said that he is not yet planning to sit out for the remainder of the 2014-15 NBA season due to his ailing knee despite their disappointing record this season.
The Knicks, who are playing in their first full season under new team president Phil Jackson and rookie coach Derek Fisher, have the worst record in the league at 5-32.
While making the playoffs this season is obviously a long shot for the struggling Knicks, Anthony said that he has yet to think about ending his season despite being hobbled by knee soreness this season.
"I'm all right," Anthony said via Bleacher Report. "I'm not shutting it down for the season yet. I'm just trying to take some time to get it right."
Anthony, who is averaging 23.9 points to go along with 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists this season, has missed their last three games, including their 105-83 blowout loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
The 30-year-old superstar said doctors told him that his condition will not improve if he decides to continue playing. Earlier this month, Fisher admitted that there will come a point where Anthony and their medical staff will eventually decide to shut it down for the remainder of the season to avoid further damage.
"From the conversations I've been a part of, I think everybody is smart enough to realize, calendar wise, timing wise, that there may come a point that that's the decision that needs to be made," Fisher told ESPN New York last week.
Knicks president Jackson might have already waived the white flag this season after the 11-time champion coach engaged in a three-team deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Knicks sent Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the three-team trade where they acquired seldom-used big men Lou Amundson and Alex Kirk along with a 2019 second-round pick from the Cavs and Lance Thomas from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Andrew Keh of New York Times revealed on Twitter that Anthony told reporters that parting ways with Shumpert and Smith was tough to deal with, particularly Smith, whom he has played with since they were still with the Denver Nuggets.
