'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' Season 6 Cast News: Teresa Giudice Gets Reduced Prison Sentence
"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Teresa Giudice is reportedly to be released from prison earlier than expected.
ET Online reports the realty TV star will be let out of prison on Feb. 5, 2016, just two months earlier than her 15-month sentence. She is serving her time at the Danbury Connecticut Federal Correctional Institution.
Teresa started her prison sentence after turning herself in on Monday at around 3 a.m. She and her husband Joe Giudice pleaded guilty back in March to fraud charges, which could lead to Joe's deportation, New York Daily News reports. The notorious couple pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud, mail fraud and other charges in a New Jersey Federal Court. ET Online reports the couple owes over $5 million from their fraudulent behavior.
"Having now confessed their wrongdoing, the Giudices face the real cost of their criminal conduct," U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said according to NY Daily News.
At the time of their plea, Teresa faced a prison sentence of up to 27 months. She agreed to pay the government $200,000 as well.
Joe faced a sentence of up to 46 months and also admitted to avoiding income taxes worth nearly $1 million between the years of 2004 and 2008. The Italian citizen is also set to face another hearing that may result in his deportation.
The couple also is set to forfeit more money in an amount determined by the judge.
Teresa said in a statement at the time of her plea.
"Today, I took responsibility for a series of mistakes I made several years ago. ... I am heartbroken that this is affecting my family -- especially my four young daughters, who mean more to me than anything in the world," she said.
Joe and Teresa were able to alternate in serving their sentences in order to keep one parent at home to care for their children, Gia, Gabriella, Miliani and Audriana.
