Matthew McConaughey, 45, and Camila Alves, 32, debuted bold new looks on the 2015 Golden Globe Awards red carpet.

The Oscar-winning actor wore a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo on the red carpet, but it was his scruffy beard that got the most attention, People magazine reports. McConaughey's facial hair was in stark contrast to the clean shaven and dapper appearance he has kept in the Lincoln MKZ hybrid and Dolce & Gabbana's The One for Men fragrance ad campaigns. As a result, there was much speculation about his beard, which many assume is for an upcoming role.

McConaughey was asked about his grooming rituals during a June 2014 interview with the Los Angeles Times.

"I'm not a manscaper. No, no, no! Only for 'Magic Mike.' I like to take care of myself, but I wouldn't call myself overly metro. I'm not a big manicurer or anything," he said.

McConaughey's wife, Brazilian model Alves, wore a beautiful mauve-colored Monique Lhuillier gown. She had teased fans that she was thinking about going blonde in the weeks leading up to the Golden Globes. While she did not go completely blonde, she did have honey highlights added to her hair and wore the new color in a sophisticated up do.

McConaughey received a Golden Globe award Best Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in "True Detective."

The couple, who has been together nine years, met in 2006. By early 2008, McConaughey announced that he was starting a family with Alves, and that summer they welcomed their first child. The couple became engaged on Christmas Day, 2011. They were married on June 9, 2012 in Austin, Texas, where they live. They have three children: 5-year-old son Levi, 4-year-old daughter Vida and 1-year-old son Livingston.

When not accompanying her husband on the red carpet, Alves is busy with her MUXO line of handbags and tunics. She started the business in 2005 with her mother, Fatima, who has a fashion design background.

Meanwhile, McConaughey recently played NASA pilot Cooper in the sci-fi film "Interstellar." Fans can also see him in the movie sequel "Magic Mike XXL" due for release July 1, 2015 in which he reunites with actor Channing Tatum and the rest of the Kings of Tampa for a blow-out final performance in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
