While appearing at the Television Critics Association's press event on Sunday, actor Billy Crystal shared his opposing views on provocative gay sex scenes in Hollywood.

Crystal confessed the use of LGBT storylines on popular television shows are "too much" for him to watch, TheWrap reports.

"Sometimes, it's just pushing it a little too far for my taste, and I'm not going to reveal to you which ones they are," he said. "I hope people don't abuse it and shove it in our face ... to the point where it feels like an every day kind of thing."

Despite his opposing view on gay sex scenes, Crystal was once famous for portraying a homosexual character, Jodie Dallas, on ABC's "Soap" series from 1977 to 1988.

When asked to describe his experience on set while playing Jodie, Crystal admitted he was uncomfortable with the role.

"It was very difficult at the time. ... Yeah, it was awkward, it was tough," he said. "I did it in front of a live audience, and there were times when I would say to Bob [Seagren], 'I love you,' and the audience would laugh nervously. I wanted to stop the taping and go, 'What is your problem?'"

Crystal has since clarified his gay sex scene comments following the backlash from critics who labeled his statements as anti-gay, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

"What I meant was that whenever sex or graphic nudity of any kind (gay or straight) is gratuitous to the plot or story it becomes a little too much for my taste," he said.

In addition to Crystal, comedian Kevin Hart also sparked controversy last week when he told The Breakfast Club that he would never play a gay role because of insecurities about how he would be judged, Think Progress reports. Hart then went on to reveal he even turned down a role in the hit film "Tropic Thunder" because the character was too "flagrant" for his taste.
