'Nuestra Belleza Latina' 2015 Recap: One Contestant Is Challenged to Learn Spanish, Another Is Given a Year to Prepare
The auditions continued on the second episode of "Nuestra Belleza Latina."
Despite the fact the show takes place on Spanish-language Univision, there were a few contestants who had not fully mastered Spanish who decided to try out.
Still, Mabelynn Capeluj made it through to Miami.
She was criticized by the judges for not having mastered Spanish, but she was praised for her look.
In this case, it was Jomari Goyso who had the biggest issue with her going through. The other judges gave her the points necessary to pass through, but Osmel Sousa had some advice for her.
"I'm giving you this pass, and you're going to get the 'Real Academia Española' book, and you're going to memorize it," he said. "And when you arrive to the Miami airport, I'm going to be waiting for you with a test."
Sousa said if she didn't pass, she would be boarding a plane home. But he called her beautiful and said he was rooting for her.
Jennifer Salgado, who auditioned in Houston, moved the judges.
Salgado is deaf and has been modeling since she was 5. Her mother wanted her to break out of her shell. Salgado explained she used to be mute as a child, and she then had surgery and slowly started speaking.
Goyso said Salgado was an inspiration, and the judges told her they would save her pass for the following year. They asked her to prepare herself for a year.
It was also an emotional night for Goyso.
At one point, he was overcome with emotion, and he walked away from the set and cried. He was a victim of abuse, and he tearfully explained that it was a struggle for him.
He was touched by contestant Jessica Quintero, who said at 15, she was raped.
Mane de la Parra, Daniel Arenas, Zuleyka Rivera, Jackie Guerrido and Raul Brindis were the special guest judges.
