In an explosive malpractice suit seeking unspecified damages, Melissa Rivers filed charges against medical staffers who worked on her mother Joan Rivers the day she died and, according to the suit, acted more like "groupies" than medical professionals.

TMZ reports the suit also emphasizes how, during the 20 minutes doctors tried to revive the world famous comedian, they neglected to so much as perform a simple tracheotomy that might have helped to regulate her breathing.

"The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behavior is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensible," Melissa said. "Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better."

In addition to the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic where the procedure took place, the suit also names Gwen Korovin, Joan's personal physician, as a defendant. Lawyers for Melissa argue Korovin shouldn't have been allowed in the operating room while the surgery was taking place and was only there to pose for selfies with the unconscious Rivers.

"Had doctors acted as physicians for Joan Rivers instead of groupies, Joan Rivers would have been doing 'Fashion Police' last week," family attorney Jeffrey Bloom said.

The suit also alleges one doctor sought to take photos of Rivers' affected area, only to be rebuked by another one with the admonishment, "You're such a curious cat. You always want to know what's going on."

The 81-year-old Joan was known for her bombastic style and straightforward delivery. With her "Late Show With Joan Rivers" debut in 1986, she became the first woman to host a late night network television talk show. She also hosted "The Joan Rivers Show" for four seasons beginning in 1989 and was the author of 12 best-selling memoirs.

Reportedly, the Yorkville facility is close to having its accreditation stripped away.
