Avengers Age of Ultron Cast News: Elizabeth Olsen Confirms Scarlet Witch Role
Elizabeth Olsen has been confirmed as the Scarlet Witch in Joss Whedon's upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie.
Whedon has openly stated that X-Men comic book mutants Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff, and her brother Quiksilver, real name Pietro Maximoff, would appear in the upcoming sequel to 2012's The Avengers. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been confirmed as Quiksilver. Olsen has been rumored to be a front runner to play Scarlet Witch for a while. Yesterday, Olsen confirmed her role, which will again put her side-by-side with Taylor-Johnson, her Godzilla co-star.
"We get to play husband and wife [in Godzilla], and we get to play twin brother and sister [in Avengers]," Olsen told MTV News. "It's also fun because even though in Godzilla we play husband and wife, we don't have a lot of scenes together. I just love him. I love his family. I love his kids. I'm so excited...to actually work with each other. I think it's going to be fun."
In early October, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in both movies, dropped the ball on Olsen's participation in the film, which Olsen said "released" her "from that awkwardness" of discussing the role.
"I don't think we begin shooting before March of next year," Jackson told The Wall Street Journal. " "I know we're shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen, but I don't know what she's doing, if she's on the inside or the outside. I haven't seen a script."
Olsen said that the process of becoming Scarlet Witch, including selecting her costume, is "so fun," and the Olsen twins' little sister had nothing but nice things to say about her director.
"He's very smart. He's too smart. He might be too smart," she said. "Some people are too smart for their own good, but he's amazing."
Avengers: Age of UItron will be released in May 1, 2015. Olsen and Taylor-John can also be seen in in Godzilla starting May 16, 2014.
