Hot New 'Tha Carter V' Album Release 2015: Mannie Fresh Talks Appearing on Songs, Lil Wayne's Desire for Non-YMCMB Stars Like Justin Timberlake
Lil Wayne's longtime producer Mannie Fresh discussed working on highly anticipated "Tha Carter V" album over the weekend.
The former Cash Money in-house producer revealed that he has contributed to the New Orleans emcee's latest project.
"I hope it comes out. I got a couple of songs on it," he told HipHopDX. "It's a big royalty check. Mama want another house."
Fresh also praised Wayne on stage at pre-Grammy event BMI's "How I Wrote That Song" panel at 1Oak on Feb. 7.
"He was always the first one there and the last one to leave, and he had a tablet full of songs," he said. "This kid is way ahead of himself. Even when he was young, he was four grades up."
In an interview with The Associated Press, the former Big Tymers member spoke about how Cash Money Records, which he himself parted ways with since 2005, is possibly creatively limiting Lil Tunechi.
"I just think Wayne is growing as an artist," he said. "Wayne has given us some great albums, but he has never given us that album with like a Justin Timberlake on it -- with features where like, OK, this is what we expect from an artist of your caliber. ... Like you went out and got Cher on the song because you are that dude. You're on that level. I think he's going -- real talk -- 'I could probably use Drake and Nicki, but I've done that so many times. Let's get out there and do things so I can show that I am bigger than life."
Fresh Mannie elaborated more on Lil Wayne's potential, hinting his next move.
"He's going to get somebody with star power that can bring other people to the table," he explained. "If I did do a song and I got Justin Timberlake on it, I got Justin Timberlake fans as well. I think Wayne is starting to see it in that way. Hip hop can only bring you so far."
