New Jersey lawmakers have indicted a 35-year-old Caldwell teacher on 40 counts of aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment charges stemming from her alleged involvement with six males students from the local school districts.

Nicole DuFault allegedly committed her crimes over a two-year period beginning in 2013. According to NorthJersey.com, Essex County prosecutors suspect some of the sex acts took place on school property in her vehicle.

In all, DuFault, a divorced mother of two young sons, taught for more than nine years in several school districts, including Bloomfield, Passaic and Bergen County. Prosecutors add all of DuFault's alleged victims were between the ages of 14 and 15 years old at the time of the incidents.

The New York Daily News reports among the most damaging evidence against DuFault is a video of her allegedly performing oral sex on one teen while another lurked nearby.

Despite the seemingly mounting evidence against their client, lawyers for DuFault plan to vigorously defend her, including perhaps using a defense that paints the picture of the teens being the aggressors.

"If the video depicts certain things happening ... that doesn't mean that my client's not innocent," said lead attorney Timothy Smith. "People are victimized by juveniles all the time."

DuFault was initially taken into custody in September of 2014 after three students alleged she had engaged in sex with them. Shortly after a grand jury was convened to investigate the matter, three other teens stepped forward to lodge similar allegations.

DuFault remains free on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in the court room of Superior court Judge Michael L. Ravin for her next hearing on March 6. Among her longest stops, DuFault taught language arts at Columbia High School for nine years.
