A recently retired suburban New York police officer is being blamed for murdering his two daughters before ending his own life Saturday at their home, Fox News reports.

Glen Hochman spent 22 years working for the White Plains police department. According to reports from the New York Post, he and his wife were having marital issues and were thinking about divorce.

Police sources say that Hochman left a note at the scene of the crime.

Police were called to Hochman's home in the late afternoon. When they arrived, they found Hochman dead in the garage from a self-inflicted gun wound to the head. Police then found his two daughters, Alissa, 17, and Deanna, 13, dead in their bedrooms.

Police said they do not think that Hochman's wife and oldest daughter were home during the apparent murder-suicide. The two were spending the day at a casino in Connecticut.

Responding to the reports, White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong called the deaths "an unfathomable tragedy." Chong confirmed the identity of the deceased individual as Hochman.

"The department is shocked and horrified by the news of this unfathomable tragedy," Chong said. "We can only pray for the family."

Alissa and Deanna's deaths led to a statement from a Harrison school official, who called it a "incomprehensible tragedy" and said the school would be open Sunday to assist families and friends of the girls.

Last year, Hochman won an award for helping an unresponsive man stay alive while he waited for paramedics to arrive.

One neighbor of the Hochmans said the cop was a quiet individual.

"I remember seeing him walking his dog," one neighbor said. "He was just a quiet guy–I'm tearing up just thinking about this."

The Hochman family had three dogs, and in Saturday's tragedy, the former cop killed all three.
