John McCain said he is ashamed of the U.S. President Barack Obama and of himself, The Daily Caller reports.

The Arizona Senator was referring to America's reaction to the ongoing battle between Russia and Ukraine as he talked to Bob Schieffer for "Face the Nation" on CBS Sunday.

McCain says he is frustrated that the United States and other major European powers have failed to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin in his advance on Ukraine.

"I'm ashamed of my country, I'm ashamed of my president and I'm ashamed of myself that I haven't done more to help these people," McCain said. "It is really, really heartbreaking. I believe that German chancellor and president of France legitimized for the first time in 70 years the dismemberment of a country in Europe. It's shameful. Vladimir Putin has not paid any price."

McCain also pointed out that the Ukranians "are not asking for American boots on the ground, but merely weapons to defend themselves against the Russian onslaught."

The failed 2008 Republican presidential candidate said that America is currently in a dark chapter in its history of alliance.

"Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine not to be part of Europe, and he is succeeding in doing so," McCain said.

Meanwhile, McCain says he is running for his sixth term as senator for the 2016 elections, Washington Post reports. He will be 80 years old next year so people are thinking that he may retire soon.
