The Chicago Bulls took another huge blow after losing star point guard Derrick Rose for possibly the remainder of the 2014-15 NBA season. With Rose's status hanging in the balance after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee again, Tom Thibodeau might also end up getting the pink slip in the offseason.

According to Nancy Armour of USA Today, Rose's absence could spell the end of Thibodeau's era in Chicago, especially if they fail to go deep into the playoffs this season.

The Bulls, who were one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference title heading into the season, are currently in fourth place in the conference standings with their 36-22 record, but losing their superstar hurt their chances of winning it all this season.

Should the Bulls fail to win the title this season, Armour believes that it could be the final straw, as previous reports indicated that team executives do not have a good relationship with Thibodeau, who took to the coaching job in 2010 after serving as an assistant coach in Boston.

"Tom Thibodeau's relationship with Bulls management were already strained, so tenuous there have been rumblings all season of their parting ways this summer, despite two years left on Thibodeau's contract," Armour wrote. "Take away Rose and his staunch support for Thibodeau, even if it's only for a few months, and it might be just the excuse the coach and team need to announce they're parting ways."

Rose has been in and out of the roster over the past several seasons since sustaining a torn ACL in the opening round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Despite missing their superstar for the majority of their games since 2012, Thibodeau has led the Bulls to respectability. Since the 2012-13 NBA season, Thibodeau led the Bulls to a 129-92 record. In five seasons at the helm, the 52-year-old coach has tallied an impressive 241-128 record.

However, his impressive record over the past five seasons might not be enough to keep his job. Former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy recently blasted the Bulls' front office for their unfair treatment of Thibodeau.

"The team has publicly supported their coaches while privately undermining that same person," Van Gundy said via Chicago Tribune. "Think about it. They ran Phil Jackson out after winning all those championships. I think it's wrong. It's wrong for the team. It has not been fair to Tom."
