Charmayne Maxwell Death: Grammy Nominee Dies at 46 After Falling, Being Punctured With Glass
Grammy nominee Charmayne Maxwell of the 90s R&B group Brownstone died Friday night in Los Angeles from a wound in her neck, TMZ reports.
Maxwell's husband found her bleeding from a cut in her neck. Relatives say she was home alone with her son at the time of the incident.
Her husband, music producer Carsten Soulshock, found her unconscious and bleeding when he came home around 9 p.m.
TMZ reports that she fell backwards at the doorway between the house and the patio while holding a wine glass.
The wine glass shattered on the ground behind the singer's head, puncturing the back of her neck in two places as she fell on shards of glass.
She also had an injury on the back of her head which may have knocked her unconscious when she fell. LAPD interviewed her husband and reports that there is no history of domestic violence in their relationship.
Although it is still a mystery on what caused the fall, police do not suspect foul play. Officials predict that she may have fallen from intoxication.
The singer's brother, Brandon Maxwell, posted on Instagram, "R.I.P to my sister...I'm so devastated because you deserved to stay on this earth much longer. You had such an amazing talent and you went really far with your singing career."
"I felt so inspired from you and it gave me motivation to become the best performer I could be. I love you so much sis, I'm so grateful I was able to have you in my life," he continued.
An autopsy and toxicology test could give more information about her death. The coroner currently has Maxwell's body and is in the process of conducting the tests.
Maxwell's singing group, Brownstone, was on Michael Jackson's MJJ Music label. The group's biggest hit was 1995 song "If You Love Me."
Brownstone also earned a Billboard Music Award and a Grammy nomination for "If You Love Me."
