England vs. Italy Schedule, Predictions, Preview; Could Italy Beat England's Physical Squad?
The English and Italians will face off in an international friendly on Tuesday.
One team enters the match on a high while the other continues to struggle. England has been winning big in its qualifiers and is coming off a 4-0 win over Lithuania that has it perfect in Group E. Meanwhile, Italy has not won a qualifier since October and has drawn its last two matches. As it stands, the Italians are just two points ahead of Norway for the second place spot in the group; the teams with the top two spots in the group qualify for the Euro, but only the best third-place side guarantees a spot in the tournament.
This game will be a rematch of last year's World Cup Group C match that Italy won 2-1. The two sides have met a total of 25 times in their history, with Italy holding an edge of 11 wins and six draws, with England grasping eight wins. England has only defeated Italy once in its last six games; that lone win came on Aug. 15, 2012 in a friendly. The score was 2-1.
Since being eliminated from the World Cup on losses to Costa Rica and Uruguay, Italy has a solid record of five wins and two draws. However, the draws have come in qualifiers and as noted have been costly. The wins have been of the impressive variety with one coming against the Netherlands in September.
Since the World Cup elimination, England has a seven-game winning streak that includes victories over Norway, Switzerland, Scotland and Slovenia. In that run, the English have only conceded two victories and Wayne Rooney has been terrific with seven goals in that stretch.
Predictions
Italy has not been in top form, but they match up well against the more physical English. Look for a 1-1 draw.
Schedule
The game will be broadcast at 2:45 p.m. EDT on ITV. (UK Only)
