Aaron Hernandez Trial Update: Fiancée Shayanna Jenkins Describes Box Hernandez Asked Her to Move, Patriots' Owner Also Testifies
Shayanna Jenkins, the fiancée of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, took the witness stand in a Massachusetts courtroom Monday where she described the box she had removed from their house, as instructed to by Hernandez, reports the Boston Herald.
Jenkins told jurors that she grabbed the box, removed it from her North Attleboro home, placed it inside a bag and tossed it in a dumpster. She couldn't remember where the dumpster was located, but she confirmed that Hernandez told her to get rid of it.
Hernandez's defense attorney Charles Rankin asked her if she smelled the box.
"It sort of had like a skunky smell," Jenkins said, later saying that the smell reminded her of marijuana.
The revelation poked holes in the prosecutor's claim that the box contained the .45-caliber Glock that was used to murder Lloyd.
"Is this the first time you've said that?" assistant district attorney William McCauley asked.
"Yes," Jenkins said.
While her description of the box could be damaging to the prosecution, she also testified that she was OK with Hernandez's womanizing, which supports the state's assertion that she is his "submissive agent" who will do whatever he demands.
When asked by McCauley whether she did what Hernandez told her to do, Jenkins answered, "yes."
On Tuesday, New England Patriots team owner Robert Kraft testified that two days after Lloyd's murder, Hernandez looked him in the eyes and said he was innocent, reports CNN.
On the witness stand, Kraft remembered a private conversation he had with the former tight end on June 19, at the Patriots' Gillette Stadium.
"He said he was not involved," Kraft testified. "He said he was innocent."
Mark Briggs, head of security at Gillette Stadium, also testified that Hernandez swore to his innocence.
"He swore on the baby's life that he was telling the truth," Briggs said.
