Apple Watch Release Date, Price & Review: Apple Shows Off Watch's Features Through Video Tours
Apple is giving future Apple Watch users a preview of some of the features with tour videos ahead of the April 24 release date.
The Welcome to Apple Watch is an almost five-minute long introduction to the new device. In the video, Apple explains the Apple Watch can be "activated" by a simple raise of the wrist. To turn off the display, users will lower their wrist.
The main screen of the Apple Watch is called the watch face. This is the main screen that displays the time and a couple other customizable items. For instance, users can put the temperature outside in the upper right hand corner, their daily fitness progress in the upper left hand corner and their appointments across the bottom of the watch face. These items can be tapped to get more details.
From the watch face, a user can swipe up to see glances. Glances are snippets of the content they interact with the most. Tapping any glance opens up the full app.
Also from the watch face, a user can swipe down to see and interact with missed notifications, like text messages.
To see all of the apps installed on the Apple Watch, a user simply taps the button on the upper right of the Apple Watch. This button is similar to a dial on a regular wristwatch. Apple calls the button the Digital Crown. The Digital Crown can be used to scroll through content and items on the Apple Watch. The Digital Crown can also be used to make adjustments on the watch such as setting a timer.
The Digital Crown is equivalent to pinching to zoom in on an iPhone or iPad. Simply turn the wheel to zoom in on pictures and content on the screen.
Siri, Apple's personal assistant can be activated by holding down the Digital Crown or simply saying "Hey Siri!"
There is one other button on the Apple Watch, right below the Digital Crown. This button takes users right to the people they like to interact with the most. From there, users can send a text, make a call or send a Digital Touch. A Digital Touch allows users to send a sketch or a tap, or even their heartbeat.
Three other videos are available from Apple. The messages feature, faces and Digital Touch will be shown off in tour videos.
There are seven more videos that will explain more features on the Apple Watch. These videos will be released as the Apple Watch gets closer to its sale date.
