Colin Kaepernick failed to lead the San Francisco 49ers to the NFL playoffs last year, following a relatively inconsistent season after former Niners coach Jim Harbaugh tried to make him more of a pocket passer.

In the hope of bouncing back from a disappointing year, Kaepernick has spent most of the offseason training in Phoenix, but 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin had a piece of advice to their quarterback.

Boldin, who has been the top target of Kaepernick over the past two seasons, said that the 27-year-old quarterback should stop listening too much to people around him. Instead, Boldin wants Kaepernick to listen to himself in order to become a more effective quarterback for the 49ers in the 2015 NFL season.

"To be honest with you, I just think he has to just block out everything else around him," Boldin said in an interview with SiriusXM Radio on Wednesday. "Stop listening to what people have to say about you. Stop listening to what people want to see you do. And just be yourself."

Kaepernick, who signed a seven-year deal worth $126 million last year, tallied a Quarterback Rating of 55.9 last season, which was lower than his 68.6 rating in 2013.

The former Nevada standout completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 3,369 yards, but had just 19 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. During the 2013 season, Kaepernick posted 3,197 passing yards for 21 touchdowns with just eight interceptions.

By relying too much on what people around him are asking him to do, Boldin said Kaepernick failed to maximize his skill set. The 34-year-old wide receiver said that Kaepernick should play his strength and athletic ability to his advantage to avoid becoming too predictable.

"I think sometimes when you try to go off suggestions of other people and try to please other people, you forget who you are and what got you there," Boldin added. "I think if he just goes out and be himself, he'll be just fine. And that's the thing I try to tell him."

New 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula expressed trust in Kaepernick's ability last month. While most analysts are convinced the star quarterback failed to live up to expectations, Tomsula insisted that Kaepernick had his best year last season and expressed confidence that the Milwaukee native will silence his critics this year.
