Director Michelle MacLaren has exited stage left from the "Wonder Woman" movie after creative differences with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.

Variety is reporting that the studio stated, "Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct 'Wonder Woman' together."

This is the second time in recent memory that a director has exited a superhero movie due to creative differences. A year ago, Edgar Wright decided to leave "Ant-Man" because he had creative differences with Marvel Studios. The film ended up hiring Peyton Reed.

"Wonder Woman" is expected to star Gal Gadot in the lead role. The character will first make an appearance in the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," but it is unknown what she be doing the film.

With the MacLaren exiting production, Warner Bros. may have to delay the film, which is expected to debut on June 23, 2017. The film currently has Jason Fuchs on board to write the script, but pre-production is still in the process and no other cast member has been locked down. The studio is currently testing four actors for the role of Trevor, who is Wonder Woman's love interest.

"Wonder Woman" was expected to MacLaren's first major film job following her work on television shows such as "Breaking Bad" and "Game of Thrones." She would have also been the first woman to direct a major superhero film.

DC Comics and Warner Bros. are expected to make a superhero film every year with some speculation that there will be a Flash film as well as an Aquaman and Green Lantern movie.

There will also be a Suicide Squad film which is slated to star Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jai Courtney. David Ayer is directing the villain spin-off and the movie is slated to open on Aug. 6, 2016.
