'Captain Marvel' News Update: Marvel Finds the Film's Writers
As the "The Avengers: Age of Ultron's" opening gets close, Marvel is continuing its work on Phase Three the Avengers.
The company is in negotiations with writers Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy") and Meg LaFauvre ("Inside Out) for "Captain Marvel." The two writers will team up to pen the script for the film which is expected to open on July 6, 2018.
Marvel has yet to announce a director or an actress but based on the writers, Marvel may be looking at a female director. The movie will tell the story of Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, who was an air force pilot and whose DNA was fused with that of an alien after an accident, giving her superhuman strength and even the ability to fly.
After a long set of male oriented superhero movies, this film will mark Marvel's first female-driven superhero movie. Interestingly enough, the release of the film will be a year after DC Comics "Wonder Woman." However, both movies could end up being released in the same year especially after "Wonder Woman's" director recently left production over creative decisions.
The latest trend of these two giants in making female-driven superhero movies comes after Disney succeeded with "Maleficent" and "Cinderella" and proved that females could easily sell a big budget film.
Writer Perlman is currently attached to write the sequel to "Guardians to the Galaxy." LeFauve has never penned a superhero film and is well known for her work on "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys."
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is scheduled to open on May 2 and break box office records while "Ant-Man" is scheduled for July 17. In 2016 "Captain America: Civil War" opens as well as "Doctor Strange." The company also has plans for a Black Panther movie and two more "Avengers movies. Those films will open in 2018 and 2019.
